the fox and the crane
According to this Aesop Fable, "a Fox invited a Crane to supper and provided nothing for his entertainment but some soup made of pulse, which was poured out into a broad flat stone dish. The soup fell out of the long bill of the Crane at every mouthful, and his vexation at not being able to eat afforded the Fox much amusement. The Crane, in his turn, asked the Fox to sup with him, and set before her a flagon with a long narrow mouth, so that he could easily insert his neck and enjoy its contents at his leisure. The Fox, unable even to taste it, met with a fitting requital, after the fashion of her own hospitality.”

"Do upon others as you wish done upon yourself." Nothing sums up my passion for food, entertaining, and eating like the lesson of this old fable. It all started in the Napa Valley with my family's love of grilling steaks on our backyard bbq, and soon enough I found myself working for a chef I truly admire, Cindy Pawlcyn (Cindy’s Backstreet Kitchen, Mustards Grill). Recently I've taken on the adventure of teaching myself how to bake naturally-leaven, slow-fermented sourdough bread for my husband in our home in Brooklyn. We have three kids, @willowdeborahjane aka "the girls", who think they're my sous chefs and truly add a comedic relief to any day in the kitchen!
While I'm the first to admit I'm no expert, I understand the fundamentals of baking and cooking well enough to develop my own recipes and confidently tweak others from my vast collection of cookbooks and favorite blogs. I’ll always include detailed notes and sources of inspiration with each recipe to help you gain a clearer insight into my process of being a home cook and baker. I hope you enjoy!
